The WHO Executive Board 154 concluded recently with a touch of hope. Positive prediction and commitment emerged through the topic of discussion. Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confidently told about the probability of increase in/to investment of the countries, for suicide prevention and for the improvement of mental health globally. The promising agenda for change in 2024 glorified the discussion platform. IASP is enchanted hearing Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus’s Optimistic prediction.
As shown in the data published in last September by the WHO and World Bank, near about 50% of the world’s population faces the trouble of inadequacy in health care services. While excellent progress has already been made for presenting ideal health care systems in some of the countries with WHO’s support, more needs to be done in order to remove inadequacy in the mentioned sector. More initiatives are required to fulfill the expected global targets such as Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS). The global commitment for filling UHC 2030 and SDG target 3.4 of reducing by one third unwanted early death, caused by non-communicable sickness through prevention and curing initiatives and the promotion of mental health can he achieved by dint of investments in mental health sector and in the sector of anti-suicide activities. As it is specified (mentioned) in the Director General Report, near about one billion people in the world exist amidst mental disorder and one out of hundred deaths is caused by suicide. So, it is necessary for WHO Member States to put emphasis on mental health issues and increase investment to remove the global curse of psychological disorder and suicide.
Alertness among the citizens of the world (the people of the world) is necessary for making progress faster towards SDG target 3.4.
It should be also ensured that no one is left behind.
A number of people in the world are waiting for the World Health Assembly in May as well as high level meetings, expected to be organized around NCDs and mental health financing and NCDs and mental health implementation in small Islands States.
The continued commitment from Member States and civil society engaging in the Executive Board meeting of WHO is appreciated by the conscious citizens of the countries of the world.
